FAIRfest organizers are calling for individual and group volunteers to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday to hear about the various volunteer opportunities for FAIRfest ’15, the three-day summer music festival that will be held in and around the Arts and Convention Center June 19-21.
Volunteer coordinator Erika Richards said the first of two volunteer meetings will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Arts and Convention Center. The second organizational meeting of volunteers will be held May 28, also at 7 p.m. and also at the center.
Among other tasks, the main task requiring physical strength, Richards said, is to erect a 40- foot stage kit in front of the convention center on June 18, the day before the festival begins, and a smaller outdoor stage to be located on the old Tribune Printing lot on West Briggs Avenue.
“It sounds like a monumental task,” Richards said, “and though the Main Street stage is 40-feet wide, it is essentially a kit and just a large number of hands are needed to unfurl the canvas, tighten bolts and simple tasks like that. The heavy machinery to lift the pole and struts is operated by on site-professionals.”
Other volunteer tasks can range from helping to conduct an attendance survey planned by the Fairfield Economic Development Association, to supporting hospitality, security, site logistics and organization, and clean-up and beverage garden set-up and sales. Volunteer opportunities can also begin now for those would like to help with tasks associated with planning a large-scale not-for-profit event.
